Providing access to quality professional development for North Carolina adult educators is an important priority for the Basic Skills Department of the North Carolina Community College System.  North Carolina has responded to these needs by providing a diverse array of workshops, institutes, and conferences.  In addition, North Carolina has led the country in the development of adult education videotapes for professional development. CD-ROMS have also been added to our professional development menu.  The Internet and web-based courses now offer an opportunity to expand our professional development system even further. 

As we begin to explore the most effective and efficient ways to develop North Carolina-specific online professional development courses, we wanted you to have access to the variety of web-based training options that have already been developed by other state and national adult education organizations.  While some of the courses listed in this directory may include references to a specific state, you will find that the overall course content is applicable to your experiences as a North Carolina adult educator.

If you have never taken an online course, you may want to take a few minutes to determine your "readiness level" by clicking here.  When you're ready to begin your online professional development adventure, browse through the directory and take a look at the different topical courses that are available.  When you find one that peeks your interest, give it a try.  The majority of the courses listed in this directory are free with open-entry enrollment.  Please note that the courses have not been juried to determine the level of quality in content and design.  That’s the role we would like you to play.  Please be sure to submit an evaluation form  upon completion of each online course.  By doing so, you will enable us to develop a rating system for each course based on its design and content.
