Welcome to CAREER Start

CAREER Start is a partnership between North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), the Division of Social Services (DSS) and the Employment Security Commission (ESC) who work together in providing skills assessment, employability skills training, career development counseling and job seeking and keeping skills to Food and Nutrition Services (formerly food stamp) recipients.

The goal of CAREER Start is to increase the awareness of education and training opportunities offered through the community college system.

In 2007-2008, more than 13,000 food and nutrition services recipients attended CAREER Start workshops at community colleges across the state.
