Learning Technology Systems

Mission Statement: Committed to customer service and dedicated to acting as a catalyst for positive change, Learning Technology Systems provides leadership to the fifty-eight institutions and the System Office through policy development, coordination of planning and assessment, development of information and reporting systems, negotiation and brokerage of services, and technology assistance for library resources, teaching, and learning.

Role Statement: Learning Technology Systems provides leadership in planning, development, implementation and support of technologies and resources that support library resources, teaching, and learning. The section is responsible for system wide services for instructional and distance learning technology.

The major responsibilities of the Learning Technology Systems section are:

  • Provide direction and leadership for statewide technology support for distance learning initiatives and instructional technology within the North Carolina Community College System.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement technology support for instructional technology users in the North Carolina Community College System.
  • Consult on the selection of technology software, equipment and related materials.
  • Administration of the contract between the State Board of Community Colleges and the Sirsi Corporation for the establishment of Community College Libraries in North Carolina (CCLINC) and for working with the CCLINC Steering Committee in planning CCLINC development and utilization within NCCCS. Operation and support of the CCLINC shared library system and its public access catalog.
  • Library Information Technology Support. Provide technical support to libraries in the planning, development, and implementation of library information technologies.
  • Maintain and guide further development of the state broadband.
  • ITFS Project Support. Provide support and coordination for the community colleges that have licenses or pending applications for ITFS frequencies that will be used to provide wireless Internet access within college service areas


Training 

Learning Technology Systems arranges and schedules training opportunities for local library staff to learn to use the CCLINC/Sirsi software.
