Legislators scheduled to participate in the 4:00 Wednesday afternoon session are Senator Walter H. Dalton (D- 46^th District), Senator Stephen M. Metcalf (D- 49^th District), Senator Joe Sam Queen (D-47^th District), and Representative Wilma M. Sherrill (R-116^th District).

Twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, the SBCC meets on a selected community college campus. This fall meeting takes place on Friday at 9:00 a.m. in the Student Center at Haywood Community College following the annual State Board retreat.

The legislative session is one of several sessions that will give the SBCC an opportunity to look back at some of the successes and problems the community colleges had in the previous year. More importantly, it will afford the SBCC an opportunity to look ahead to the challenges that face the North Carolina Community College System and develop a strategy to enable the SBCC to effectively meet those challenges.

The State Board meeting ends with a special presentation from the North Carolina Petroleum Marketers Association at 1:00 p.m. Twelve community colleges will each receive a brand new oil furnace/air conditioner combination. The oil packs are the last of 39 that the NCPMA will give to the community colleges that offer HVAC programs or related classes. The units will be delivered on an 18-wheeler and then loaded onto trucks from each of the 12 colleges. The oil packs, manufactured by ThermoPride in Denton, North Carolina, will be used as training tools. The gift is especially important to these colleges because of the loss of equipment funds the NCCCS has experienced. A list of the colleges to receive the oil packs is attached.

"If our students are to be able to work on state-of-the art equipment after they find a job, they need to train on state-of-the-art equipment while they are in class," said System President H. Martin Lancaster. "This generous gift will benefit thousands of students and the customers they will eventually serve."
