State Board approves Dr. Scott Ralls as Craven Community College President
Raleigh:
The State Board of Community Colleges today approved the selection of Dr. Scott Ralls as the third president of Craven Community College, located in New Bern. The action was taken during a telephone conference meeting.Dr. Ralls replaces Dr. Lewis S. Redd, who retires at the end of June after having served as Craven CC President since May 10, 1990. Ralls assumes the presidency on August 1.
The Board also approved Dr. A. Bradford Sears, Craven CC Vice President for Instruction, to serve as Acting President for the month of July.
In recommending approval of Ralls’ appointment, North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) President H. Martin Lancaster said, " It will be impossible to replace Scott with someone of equal dedication, ability, and capacity for work. He will be greatly missed."
Since 1999 Ralls has been Vice President of Economic and Workforce Development for the NCCCS and before that worked with the System for three years as director of economic development. He now becomes, at 38, the youngest president in the NCCCS.
Prior to working with the North Carolina Community College System, Scott served as the Director of the North Carolina Division of Employment and Training, an agency of the North Carolina Department of Commerce responsible for administering job training programs that serve disadvantaged citizens and workers impacted by layoffs and plant closings in the state of North Carolina. Before returning to his native state in 1995, Scott initiated the Workforce Program for the U.S. Department of Commerce's Manufacturing Extension Partnership at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. As Manager of Workforce Programs, he coordinated workforce training and organizational development initiatives with the network of state and regionally-based manufacturing extension centers across the nation.
Ralls and his wife, Lisa, are the parents of two young sons, Benjamin and Lucas.
