Leadership on the agenda for the State Board of Community Colleges
RALEIGH - The State Board of Community Colleges meets in Raleigh at the Caswell Building this week. The two-day meeting starts with an Issues Luncheon presentation on Thursday by Dr. Dennis Massey, President and Dr. Brian Miller, Assistant to the President at Pitt Community College. They will discuss Pitt’s Leadership Institute, which is now in its fourth year. Massey and Miller presented on Pitt’s Leadership Institute at the American Association of Community Colleges national meeting in Tampa, Florida this past April.
On Friday at their full meeting the Board will be asked to approve a new leader for Isothermal Community College in Spindale. Dr. Willard Lewis, who has been president of the college since 1986, retires at the end of June. Isothermal’s Board of Trustees selected Dr. Myra Johnson, who is currently the college’s vice president of Academic and Student Affairs, as Lewis’ successor.
The Board will also receive an update on the search for a new system leader. The Presidential Search Committee will share report their progress in the search for a successor to System President H. Martin Lancaster, who announced his May 1, 2008 retirement.
Also on the agenda is approval of the applications for six new Cooperative Innovative High School Programs and two curriculum programs that are new to the Community College System – Magnetic Resonance Imaging at Forsyth Technical Community College and Automotive Management at Lenoir Community College. There are also two new pre-major programs in the Associate in Arts Degree program up for approval: Anthropology and Geography.
