Celebrating 40 years of "College That Really Works" for North Carolina
State Board of Community Colleges committee to receive preliminary report on consolidation study
RALEIGH: Dr. Kent Caruthers, the consultant hired to conduct a study of the feasibility of merging community colleges, will report to the Finance and Capital Needs Committee of the State Board of Community Colleges at its Thursday, April 10 meeting in the Caswell Building. The committee meets at 9:30 AM and the full Board meeting begins at 1:00 PM.
The State Board of Community Colleges and the Legislative Education Oversight Committee were charged by the General Assembly to conduct a study on the structure, administrative formula, and multi-campus and center funding in the NCCCS.
Dr. Caruthers hosted a series of public meetings to gather input from interested parties on the possible merger of some colleges. He has also collected data from other sources. Caruthers makes a preliminary report on his findings at the April committee meeting. A final report is due to the full State Board and the Education Oversight Committee in June.
The State Board’s Issues Lunch will focus on plans to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Community College System. May 17 marks 40 years since the passage of the bill creating the North Carolina Community College System.
