Required Courses

 

The following courses constitute the writing prerequisite hierarchy leading to ENG 111 Expository Writing: 

 

ENG 070 Basic Language Skills

ENG 080 Writing Foundations

ENG 090 Composition Strategies

 

If a college chooses to combine courses, all competencies for the courses being combined must be addressed by the combined course. 

 

Example: A college may determine that the majority of its students place into ENG 080 or ENG 090. If the college decides to not offer ENG 070, then the ENG 080 by default becomes a combined ENG 070/080 and thus must address and test for mastery of the ENG 070 competencies, as well as the ENG 080 competencies.

ENG 060 Speaking English Well

 

This course is designed to improve basic oral communication skills.  Colleges offering this course should have established criteria for placement into this course and exit from the course.  These criteria should be available in written format and should be enforced consistently for all students.
