Dr. Larry Keen Joins Community College System as Vice President for Economic and Workforce Development
RALEIGH: Dr. John Larry Keen has joined the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) as vice president for economic and workforce development.
"After years of seeing North Carolina at the top of the
economic workforce game, I’m pleased to be joining the team," said Keen.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for me and I’m really looking forward
to it," he added.
Keen comes to North Carolina from the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, where he served as the business and industry development manager since 1998.
Keen received his associate degree from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) and says he has a sincere appreciation for what community colleges can do for people and the economy. After receiving his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Missouri Southern State College, Keen returned to NEO to head their mid-management department. He obtained his Master’s in Business Education from Pittsburgh State University while working at NEO. He obtained his Doctor of Education in Higher Education from Oklahoma State University while heading the business education division, also at NEO.
Keen and his wife, Vicki, have two grown sons, Scott and Corey.
Keen says one of his immediate goals is to visit each of the 59 NCCCS campuses to learn first-hand what is going on at the local level.
