On May 1, the State Board of Community Colleges elected Peter Hans, a leader with 20 years of experience in higher education policy and governance, as the ninth president of the North Carolina Community College System.
Following the board meeting, Hans was introduced at a news conference attended by Gov. Roy Cooper, Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger, House Speaker Tim Moore, UNC System President Margaret Spellings, and business and higher education leaders.
“At the beginning of this search, we said we wanted someone with an understanding and appreciation of the Community College System – a creative thinker capable of working with a variety of constituencies,” said State Board Chair Scott Shook. “Peter Hans is that person.”
