The 13th annual NC Community Colleges 2010 Art Exhibition is
officially opened for public viewing.
This year, each of the 58 community colleges was invited to submit
two pieces of artwork to be displayed in the NC Community College
System Office. For the first time, employees at the System Office
also were invited to participate.
"The annual art exhibit is a wonderful way for us to showcase the
creative talent of our students, faculty and staff throughout the
state," says NC Community College System President, Dr. Scott Ralls.
"North Carolina’s creative economy plays a large role in our state’s
future prosperity and our colleges and students are vital players."
The System Office partnered with the
Visual Art Exchange,
the oldest private non-profit visual arts organization in Raleigh,
to install the artwork and jury entries. The art includes paintings,
sculpture, photography, ceramics, drawings, mixed media, stained
glass, needlework, basket and double-weave cotton textiles.
Two art excellence awards were selected from more than 100 pieces of
art. Central Piedmont Community College (Charlotte) student Nam
Nguyen’s painting “Cryogenic Spring,” along with Lenoir Community
College (Kinston) Business Administration Program Head Stewart
Campbell was recognized for his ceramic “Oriental Teapot.”
Art is exhibited on five floors of the Caswell Building, located at 200 W. Jones Street, in downtown Raleigh. The public is invited to schedule a tour by calling (919) 807-7100. Tours will be available only by appointment during regular office hours, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday except for State Holidays. The exhibit will run through December.
