LT. GOVERNOR DENNIS A. WICKER HONORED BY STATE BOARD OF COMMUNITY COLLEGES

The State Board of Community Colleges honored Lt. Governor Dennis A. Wicker with a resolution recognizing his years of support and leadership of the North Carolina Community College System. The resolution was presented at the meeting of the State Board on November 19.

Wicker has twelve years of service to North Carolina’s community colleges. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Central Carolina Community College in Sanford. He has also served as an ex officio member and chairman of the State Board of Community Colleges. He ended his third term as chair in July of this year.

The resolution, read by State Board Vice Chair Peter Hans and presented by State Board Chair Dr. G. Herman Porter, was unanimously approved by the State Board.

Wicker is a strong proponent community college accessibility. He has constantly supported the idea of free tuition for high school graduates who enter community colleges and introduced legislation to eliminate tuition for those students. In recent months he brokered a deal that enabled the State Board to avoid levying fees on emergency personnel who take training courses at community colleges.

In accepting the resolution, Governor Wicker said " You do me great honor, this is something I will treasure and cherish for the rest of my life." Wicker credited the support he received from State Board for the success he had over the years as he worked on behalf of community colleges. "Of all the things I have accomplished in public service, I will look back on this as being the finest thing I have ever done."

A copy of the resolution is attached.
