Nash Community College Linemen to the Legislature

RALEIGH: Nash Community College in Rocky Mount will bring an interesting presentation to the North Carolina General Assembly on May 29. Dr. Katherine Johnson, NCC President, is part of the team that will make the presentation on Tuesday. The college will demonstrate Engineering Technology and Electric Lineman Repair Technology. The college will park a bucket truck, provided by Wake Electric, at the end of Halifax Mall behind the Legislative Building and adjacent the Legislative Office Building and give legislators and others an opportunity to ride up in the bucket.

The demonstration is part of a series of Legislative Days sponsored by the North Carolina Community College Faculty Association (NCCCFA). The presentation takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29 on Halifax Mall and additional information will be available in the North Lobby of the Legislative Building.

The Lineman Technology degree program was developed in conjunction with the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives. The cooperatives train line crews in all aspects of their jobs at the Nash training field and classrooms.

The demonstrations sponsored by the NCCCFA are designed to illustrate the value and showcase the variety of programs offered at North Carolina’s 58 community colleges. Community college faculty and professional staff are hoping this year will bring a long overdue and much needed salary increase for their ranks.
