Money issues on State Board of Community Colleges Agenda
New student representative joins the Board

RALEIGH:  The State Board of Community Colleges meets on Friday, July 19 at 9:00 a.m. in the Caswell Building.

Last year a tuition increase was enacted by the General Assembly after students had paid their tuition bills. The retroactive increase created administrative problems for the colleges. The Board wants to avoid that situation this year and will consider a proposal to address the issue.

Another agenda item is a comprehensive report conducted by The Business and Finance Division of the Community College System Office on student fees charged by the community colleges. That report and fee recommendations will be presented to the Board.

The Issues Luncheon on Thursday focuses on the curriculum application process and a Legislative Special Provision that encourages more regional programs and less program duplication. State Board Vice Chair Hilda Pinnix-Ragland and Academic and Student Services Vice President Delores Parker will make the presentation. Business and Finance Vice President Kennon Briggs will also report on budget issues and legislative activity.

Brandon Lee Johnson, a student at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, joins the Board as the new student representative. He replaces Sharon Wright-Watson, who graduated from Piedmont Community College and now attends North Carolina Central University.
