COMMUNITY COLLEGES RECEIVE CISCO PARTNERSHIP AWARD
RALEIGH: The North Carolina Community College System received a Partnership Achievement Award at the Cisco Networking Academy Celebration held today at Southeast Raleigh High School. The recognition was for the role community colleges play in offering Cisco Networking Academy Programs across the state.
Part of the event today included "North Carolina Success Stories" where North Carolina Academy instructors and students described how the Cisco Networking Program has made a difference in their schools, communities, and lives. Most of the successes involved community colleges. Below are three.
Forsyth Technical Community College shared the story of WinstonNet, a non-profit, community outreach endeavor with the goal of bridging the digital divide in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. The program, which receives leadership and support from Forsyth Tech personnel, provides access to computing resources, email, and training for an underserved population.
Wake Technical Community College offered the story of Cisco Networking Academy CCNA Graduate Robert Holt who began the program after 28 years in the printing industry. After Cisco Technology training at Wake Tech, Holt is now a successful part of the Cisco Team as a Sales Development Representative.
Stanly Community College had the story of Russell Mabry, who came to Stanly CC to increase his networking skills. The Stanly Cisco Networking Academy helped Mabry move from a position as a cable installer to his present job installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining networking equipment.
There were additional success stories from Central Carolina, Robeson, and Southwestern Community Colleges.
The North Carolina Community College System plays an integral role in the education of the State of North Carolina and in building its economic future.
