State Board of Community Colleges to make decision on BioNetwork Grants

RALEIGH: Major decisions regarding more than $4.4 million in grant awards will be decided on Tuesday by the State Board of Community Colleges. The Board will hold a called telephonic meeting at 10:00 a.m. on May 4, 2004, originating from the State Board Room in the Caswell Building. The sole purpose of this meeting is to decide whether or not to accept the review panel recommendations regarding the recipients of the BioNetwork Grants, which are funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation.

The start-up funding provided by the grants will finance several initiatives:

Five Community College BioNetwork Competitiveness Centers

BioNetwork Central Learning Center - dedicated community college space at the planned Biotechnology Education Center on the Centennial Campus at NC State University. This will be the home based scheduling center for the BioNetwork Mobile Laboratory

Biotechnology Innovation Funds

Biotechnology Equipment and Related Facility Enhancement Funds

If approved by the State Board, the recommendations will then be presented to the Golden LEAF Foundation Board for final approval.
