Community colleges and public schools receive NC Tech Prep Awards
RALEIGH – Community colleges and public schools from across North Carolina received the North Carolina College Tech Prep Award at the North Carolina College Tech Prep 2004 Spring Conference. The conference was held at the Joseph S. Koury Convention Center in Greensboro March 15-17.
College Tech Prep is a course of study designed to meet the need for high school graduates to have more technically oriented educational backgrounds. Through a blending of high-level academic and vocational courses, College Tech Prep prepares students for the collegiate-level courses required by two-year community college programs. College Tech Prep is funded through the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998.
A total of 18 winners (partnerships between a community college and a public school system) were honored. Receiving the Gold Award for Overall Excellence are Richmond County Schools and Richmond Community College as well as Cumberland County Schools and Fayetteville Technical Community College. The overall award recognizes the programs that achieved a high percentage of student participation, lowered dropout and remediation rates and involved all partners in the process.
