Lt. Governor to present report on Business & Education Technology Alliance to State Board
RALEIGH: Preparing North Carolina workers for competitive advantage in the knowledge age is a primary mission of the State Board of Community Colleges and a concern of every education agency in North Carolina. The Issues Lunch on Thursday, May 19 will feature Lt. Governor Beverly Perdue presenting a report to the State Board from the Business & Technology Alliance (BETA) that focuses on ensuring that an effective use of technology is built into the North Carolina School System to generate that competitive advantage.
The Alliance, chaired by the Lt. Governor, developed 20 BETA recommendations to ensure a globally competitive workforce and citizenry for the 21st century. One recommendation would have the State Board of Education, the University Board of Governors, and the State Board of Community Colleges develop E-learning standards and infrastructures.
The State Board will be asked to approve several contracts for the BioNetwork, Career Start, the College Information Systems Project, and Workforce Initiatives. The Board is also expected to approve an interim president for Haywood Community College in Sylva.
The complete agenda follows.
