JOINT APPEARANCE OF PRESIDENT LANCASTER AND PRESIDENT BOWLES
(Monday, 1:30 pm) ONE OF HIGHLIGHTS OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM CONFERENCE


This weekend, between 2500 and 3000 faculty, staff, presidents, trustees and students of the North Carolina Community College System will come to Greensboro's Koury Center for the conference that every two years marks the largest event sponsored by North Carolina's community colleges.

 

One of the most anticipated sessions is "A View from the Top," (Monday, October 9, at 1:30 pm, Imperial C) a joint appearance by Martin Lancaster, President of the North Carolina Community College System, and Erskine Bowles, President of the University of North Carolina System. Lancaster and Bowles will briefly outline new collaborations between the systems, focus on joint legislative proposals and engage participants in a Q and A.

SUNDAY

  • Conference registration opens Sunday morning, followed by pre-conference workshops and meetings
  • 4:30 - 5:30 pm Guilford Ballroom A-C: General Session One: Keynote address by H. Martin Lancaster, NC Community College System President

 

MONDAY

  • 8:45 - 10 am. Guilford Ballroom A-C: General Session Two: "A Few Thoughts on Learning," address by Dr. Sanford C. Shugart, President, Valencia Community College, Orlando, Florida
  • 10:30 - 11:45 am Imperial H: Concurrent Session, "Think College: A Minority Male Recruitment Outreach Effort"
  • 1:30 - 3 pm Imperial C: Concurrent Session, "A View from the Top" Lancaster and Bowles (see above)
  • 3:15 - 4:30 pm: Edinburgh: "The Veterans Oral History Project at Piedmont Community College"

 

TUESDAY

  • 10:45 am - noon Links: "Teaching About Islam in the Community College Setting"
  • NOON-1 pm Guilford Ballroom A-C: General Session C: "It's Not Life or Death, It is More Important Than That: A Northern Ireland Perspective," Dr. Damian O'Kane, Director, University of Ulster, Northern Ireland

 

Most sessions, except for association meetings, are OPEN TO THE MEDIA FOR THE PURPOSES OF COVERAGE. Come by the main conference registration desk for directions and credentials.
