FOR EXCELLENCE AWARD
Award to Be Presented at Day of Recognition
Luncheon in November in Raleigh
RALEIGH - 2006 marks the first year of the North
Carolina Community College Distinguished Partners for Excellence
Award. The State Board of Community Colleges established the award
in November.
This award recognizes an exemplary employer, business or industry
group that has demonstrated decisive involvement and firm commitment
to the professional development of its employees and/or to the
development of North Carolina's workforce through its partnership
efforts with the North Carolina Community College System.
“The State Board wanted to recognize the vital collaboration between
community colleges and the business community in North Carolina,”
said Dr. Larry Keen, vice president for economic and workforce
development, System Office, who helped the board create the award.
“Community colleges are instrumental in preparing the state’s
workforce for an ever-increasing global economy.” The North Carolina
Community College System is the state’s primary provider of
workforce preparation and adult education.
"Community colleges play a key role in the training and education of
North Carolina's workers,” said Hilda Pinnix-Ragland, chair, State
Board of Community Colleges. “This relationship is important to the
continued economic growth of the state. We (the State Board) felt
that it is very important for us to recognize the special
relationship between business and our community colleges."
