Response to 2006 - 07 Budget passed by General Assembly

“The North Carolina Community College System greatly appreciates the funds appropriated to our colleges and the System Office by the General Assembly for the 2006-07 fiscal year.
“This budget continues the move toward bringing our faculty and professional staff salaries closer to the national average. “We are also pleased with the $5 million appropriated for allied health projects and the additional money to provide need-based financial aid to nursing and teaching students. The $1.0 million appropriated specifically for nursing equipment and supplies and to increase the salaries of nursing faculty is an important financial resource for our colleges to use.”
“This funding is a welcome and much-appreciated start, but more funding is required to enable us to attract and keep nursing professionals. This is an item that will be revisited in the next session.”
