Like so many others, the downturn in the economy made it necessary to take a second look at how my husband and I were going to survive the second part of our lives. Having been out of school for 30+ years I was nervous just thinking about going to college; however, I was inspired by my daughter who survived an abusive marriage and then tenaciously struggled to better provide for her two children and herself by attending and graduating from Brunswick Community College's nursing program. If she could do it, so could I!

So not even knowing in which direction to go, I took that first step and hesitantly walked through the front doors at BCC. Right away my fears were allayed by the counselor who spent time with me and helped me decide on a direction to go. My instructors and fellow students have been nothing but helpful and positive. Even the cashier in the cafeteria, Brenda Bullock, takes the time to give me kind words of encouragement. I have a new-found confidence as I enthusiastically look forward to seeing how I can put to use all I've learned at BCC.
