A student-friendly learning environment is why I chose to attend a community college. I wanted to be more than just a number on paper. I always thought I would attend a university after high school. When my senior year rolled around, I realized a university was not the right place for me at the time. While my classmates filled out applications and waited for acceptance letters, I fought off the nagging feeling that I needed to take a different path. Try as I might, I simply could not bring myself to choose a school; I was just not ready for the university experience. I excelled in high school, but I needed time to make the transition from earning good grades because it was expected of me to earning good grades because it was what I expected of myself. My community college – Montgomery Community College – though small, offered just the environment I needed to transition successfully into college academic life.
