Katherine Allen

Katherine Allen Blue Ridge Community College Faculty Katherine Allen has raised the bar and her early childhood students are the beneficiary of her great efforts. Nominated and chosen by fellow faculty members, Allen was named the College's 2008 Dr. and Mrs. William D. Killian Outstanding Teacher. She was also one of five finalists for the state's top award for community college faculty.

She has demonstrated over and over the ability to lead and motivate students. According to her students, she listens to their needs and serves as an advisor and cheerleader as they proceed through their educational journey. Allen tackles projects on campus and is active in professional organizations as well. She has gone to great lengths to develop online courses for students who otherwise would not be able to study early childhood. Her innovative ideas in the classroom and online with electronic portfolios will benefit students for years to come.

Kathy has carried the College's early childhood program forward to national accreditation status in 2008. It is one of the first 20 programs in the nation and the first program in Western North Carolina to receive this recognition.

Katherine Allen is committed to excellence and continuous improvement for Blue Ridge Community College students.
