Kay Ring
Domestic violence is an ugly reality that Kay Ring deals with every day. To the victims, she brings help and hope through her work as executive director of HAVEN (Helping Abuse and Violence End Now) of Lee County.
"I'm a survivor of domestic violence," Kay said. "When I got myself back together, I wanted to help others."
To learn how to do this, Kay enrolled in Central Carolina Community College's Human Services program. She received her associate's degree in 2004.
"Coming to Central Carolina helped build my self-confidence and self-esteem," she said. "Everyone, from the president down, made me feel comfortable and welcome. The curriculum gave me all the tools I needed to be a professional and the instructors went out of their way to see that we understood the material. It was a quality education."
Now, Kay not only directs HAVEN, but, among other activities, also sits on the N.C. Coalition Against Domestic Violence Board of Directors, and speaks against domestic violence statewide.
