Sherwin Rice
When Sherwin Rice moved to Bladen County from New Jersey as a teenager, she had no idea what she wanted in life. While in high school she began working part-time in the Bladen County Library System, which eventually led to her choosing the field as a career.
"Becoming a librarian became my dream in life," she explains.
She enrolled at Bladen Community College after high school, completing an associate degree in 1985. She then enrolled at Fayetteville State University and earned a Bachelor of History in 1988. She later enrolled in the Master of Library Science program at North Carolina Central University and graduated in 1992.
Having worked with the Bladen County Library System throughout her college years, she was selected by the Bladen County Commissioners as the County Librarian in November 1992. She served in that capacity until she accepted the job as Bladen Community College Librarian in 2003.
She credits much of her success in life to the support and encouragement she received from the "dedicated faculty and staff at Bladen Community College," when she began her quest for a higher education.
