Laura Deardorff
Laura Deardorff credits the dual enrollment program at Bladen Community College for getting her future started on the right foot.
A native of Pittsburgh, PA, who moved to Bladen County while in middle school, Laura graduated from Tar Heel High School in 2000. She was encouraged to take advantage of the dual enrollment program at BCC by her mother, who had also attended the college. She then enrolled as a sophomore at East Carolina University, where she majored in recreational therapy. She graduated in 2005 and moved back to Pittsburgh to complete her internship.
After completing the internship, she returned to Bladen County in December 2007 and accepted a job as a developmental lab facilitator and pharmacy technician instructor in Continuing Education at BCC.
In January 2009, she was hired by West Bladen High School as a teacher of exceptional children. She is currently enrolled in the lateral teacher program through University of North Carolina – Wilmington.
"Dual enrollment was a great transition from the high school curriculum to a university curriculum," she states. "I would recommend that any high school student consider dual enrollment in their post-high school plans."
