Naomi Miller
Naomi Miller dropped out of high school in 1970 at age 16 after becoming pregnant. Though she soon returned to school and later was elected class president, she again dropped out after being told she could not serve as a class officer because she was a parent.
In 1975 she married and became a stay-at-home mom for nearly 20 years. However, she earned a GED at Bladen Community College in the late 1970s “with the faith and encouragement of the program director.”
After her children were older and wanting desperately to “make something of herself,” she enrolled at BCC when the college opened an off-site program in her community. A few months later she was hired as the site program coordinator. She completed her associate degree in 1997 and a bachelor's degree from Mt. Olive College in December 1998.
She enrolled in a master's degree program two years later and earned a Master of Arts from Central Michigan University in 2003. She has completed all of her degrees while working full-time as Program Director at BCC's East Arcadia campus. She also owns a printing business, is a volunteer with the fire department, and is very active in her church.
