Diana McLaughlin

Diana McLaughlin It took Diana McLaughlin more than 30 years to find herself in the occupation she says she was “cut out for”—early childcare. She credits her experiences as a student at Bladen Community College for helping her find her true passion in life.

A native and lifelong resident of Bladen County, McLaughlin graduated from Bladenboro High School in 1974. She married shortly after high school and had no interest in furthering her education at the time. She soon began her family and had two children 10 years apart.

She began working in the retail industry not long after high school and worked at several different establishments over the next 20 years. She then worked in a textile plant for nine years until the plant closed in 2005.

She decided to return to school and learn a new skill. She had always enjoyed working with children and enrolled in the Early Childcare program at Bladen Community College. She graduated with a degree in Early Childcare Associate in 2008. She currently works in a childcare facility in nearby Lumberton.

She says the additional training she obtained in her degree program prepared her to be fully qualified in her new career choice.
