Patrick Andrews
In his second year at Alamance Community College, Patrick Andrews has been selected as only one of 30 students from across the state to attend the North Carolina Community College Student Leadership Institute.
As president of ACC's Minority Male Mentoring Program, Patrick is passionate about the role he has accepted, helping other minority male students take charge of their lives. “Fellowship is the biggest plus in this program,” says Andrews. “It's great having that outlet where you can talk honestly and get feedback.”
Patrick came by his leadership abilities serving six years in the U.S. Navy and working in the nuclear weapons division where. “In the military, you have instructions about everything,” he says. “Here at ACC, you have to think for yourself and make determinations. You find there's more than one right answer.”
Now studying political science, Patrick wants to pursue a field that will put him in a position to influence people. “The minority mentoring group really motivated me,” he says. “Now the leadership institute will be another step up. A few years from now, I want to be able to say I left a footprint.”
