Yvonne Willoughby
One person has seen the record of almost every curriculum student who has attended Bladen Community College since 1992—Yvonne Willoughby. That's because she is the one who put their record into the system. She is and has been the college's admissions officer for nearly two decades.
A native of Washington, DC, Willoughby married immediately after graduating from high school in Alexandria, Virginia. Shortly thereafter she moved to Florida, and five years later, to Bladenboro, NC. She had four daughters and was a stay-at-home mom for most of the first 18 years after she graduated from high school.
“I always knew I wanted to work in some type of clerical field,” she relates. “So when my youngest entered school in 1990, I enrolled in the Business Administration program at Bladen Community College.”
While at BCC, she was the first student to receive the Faculty Senate Scholarship. Three months after graduating in 1992, she was hired by the Student Services Department at the college.
“BCC has been here for me throughout—when I needed to return to school, when I needed employment, and when I needed to send my girls to school. All of my daughters have attended BCC and three have graduated,” she adds.
