Carrie Peed
When Beaufort County Community College needed someone to help oversee the college's computer network, it called on their graduates, one was Carrie Peed.
Peed graduated from BCCC in 2007 with associate degrees in information systems and internet technology. Peed, along with fellow graduate, Mike Waters, serves as a computer support specialist for the college's network services office. They are responsible for setting up and maintaining the college's computer network servers and CISCO equipment, supporting its many computer work stations and helping with various campus computer-related projects such as establishing wireless access and single-user log-ins. Peed and Waters also work with various college divisions to buy computers and software, maintain computer and software inventories and provides technical support for the college's computer laboratories and computer users.
A graduate of Chocowinity High School, Peed worked as a receptionist at a local eye clinic and was a graphics designer for the Washington Daily News until shortly before the birth of her second child. She decided to be a stay-at-home mom, running an online auction service, until her children were in school. When her youngest child began school, Peed decided it was time to continue her studies. Peed said her career in computers is largely the result of a life-long interest spurred by her mother who worked as a computer programmer for a local industry.
Both Peed and Waters enjoy the challenge of keeping the college's computers up and running and communicating with each other. “I chose to attend BCCC because of the variety of courses offered, location, and the nurturing atmosphere on campus,” Peed said. “BCCC is an extension of my family and that has greatly enriched my life.”
