Paul Beaton

Paul Beaton Paul Beaton had been home schooled since the third grade and found most universities he encountered didn't quite know what to do with a homeschooler.

“I hadn't even taken the SAT, it was too expensive,” he said. “Someone told me there was a state community college that was affordable and right here in Asheville. What I found was what everyone else finds – friendly and accessible faculty who are excellent teachers.”

After graduating from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, he graduated summa cum laude from UNC Asheville, where he participated in the national meeting of the American Chemical Society, and the National Council on Undergraduate Research, presenting his undergraduate research into CFC replacements. He was a University Fellows Scholar and winner of a prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship.

The foundation Beaton received at A-B Tech helped him score in the 99th percentile on the LSAT, and was accepted to Yale, Harvard and Columbia university law schools. He chose Yale, studying in the areas of public interest and environmental law.
