Teresa Hudson

Teresa Hudson Teresa Hudson earned her GED at Montgomery Community College in 1987. Seventeen years and two children later she returned to MCC to get her degree in Office Administration. During her first semester, she discovered she was expecting her third child. None of that stopped her from finally reaching for her goal.

“I wanted a job that would give me a secure future,” Teresa said. She saw college as a door to better-paying, long-term employment.

She began working part-time in the Distance Learning department at MCC when one of her online instructors, the Dean of Distance Learning, discovered how well she applied the principles she was learning in her coursework. Although she took a semester off when her baby was born, she returned to school with more determination than ever. “I remember trying to learn how to do something really hard in class and everyone stressing out over it. It was actually fun sharing those moments with other students. The struggles and difficulties made me closer to them.”

For Teresa, whose degree took about four years to earn, the road was long. However, her reward was a job that would give her a more secure future, and that made it worth the effort. She is now employed as the Distance Learning Program Assistant at MCC.
