Treven G. Franks

Treven G. Franks Belhaven native Treven G. Franks grew up not far from that town's police headquarters and as a young man would spend time there talking with the police officers and sharing a snack and a soft drink.

Franks lost his father when he was 14 and, he said, the Belhaven police officers, many of whom were classmates or friends of his mother, provided an important role model for the young man. That's when Franks chose law enforcement as a career.

Today, the Beaufort County Community College graduate has returned to campus as a member of the BCCC police force and has dreams of attending law school and, one day, of becoming a lawyer or a judge.

Franks is a graduate of Northside High School and began his law enforcement career in 1993 as a dispatcher with the Belhaven Police Department. While working as a dispatcher, Franks attended BCCC, and graduated from the Basic Law Enforcement Training program in 1994. In 2007, Franks graduated from Mount Olive College with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice administration. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in public administration through Central Michigan University's off-campus programs at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, attending school on weekends while working at BCCC during the week. He hopes to graduate in August.

“I'm happy to be back here at the community college and serving the campus community,” he said. Franks hopes his career in law enforcement will serve as a role model for young people, just as the Belhaven police officers did for him when he was a young man.
