Anna Gurynovich
Anna Gurynovich came to the United States from Belarus four years ago and started taking ESL classes as soon as she got to Asheville. “I went to classes and got information about A-B Tech and what a good place it was,” she said.
In May 2008, Gurynovich earned her Associate in Science degree and transferred to UNC Asheville for one semester while waiting for acceptance to the UNC Chapel Hill dental assistant program. She wants to work as a dental assistant after earning her certification to pay for her doctorate so she can become a dentist. “I don't have enough credits to get into dental school and at the same time I need to get more knowledge and get better at English,” she said.
Gurynovich has completed her first semester at UNC with a 4.0 GPA. She attends UNC part time to earn the credits needed for dental school and is a full-time student at the College of Dentistry for dental assisting. “I got much knowledge from A-B Tech. UNC has a much harder grading system. An 80 is a D rather than a B. I have to try really hard not to get kicked out of school. A-B Tech helped me prepare,” she said.
