Myrtle Linton
When Myrtle Linton received her associate's degree in Nursing from Beaufort County Community College in May, 2008, it marked a milestone in her efforts to fulfill a life-long dream to be a nurse.
"The desire to be a nurse has always been a goal of mine," Linton said. "I like caring for people. It makes me feel good to help them feel good."
Until August 2002, Linton had spent most of her working life at National Spinning's Beaufort County textile plant. Her last job with the industry was operating a skein winder at the dye plant before it was phased out. Since then, Linton has followed a steady path to her new career as a nurse. She completed her Nursing Assistant I and II coursework in 2002, enrolled in BCCC's Licensed Practical Nursing program in the spring of 2003, and completed her studies in August 2005.
Linton worked part-time as an LPN at Beaufort County Hospital, now Beaufort County Medical Center, while pursuing her associate's degree.
"It's a wonderful feeling," she said. "It's like a dream come true."
Today she works as a registered nurse at Beaufort County Medical Center.
