David Gooden
When asked why he chose to attend a community college, David Gooden will simply say "money." "My family didn't have the money to send me to a university, and I wanted to make money when I finished school. I knew I would have to get an education to make a good living."
After graduating from East Bladen High School in 1988, Gooden enrolled in the General Education program at Bladen Community College. One year later he transferred to the electronics program.
After graduating in 1991, he saw that jobs appeared to be limited for people entering the workforce with an associate degree in electronics. He had taken a number of computer courses in his major and decided to enroll in the computer science program at Pembroke State University. Following graduation in 1994, he worked as an assistant systems administrator at a private company and then for the Bladen County School District before being hired by Bladen Community College in 1997. Eight months later he was selected as the college's Systems Administrator (now called Director of Information Technology).
"Bladen Community College provided me a stepping stone into the future," says Gooden.
