Rita Burch

Rita Burch When Rita Burch came to Isothermal Community College, she was a little reluctant to leave family and friends for a four-year university.

"Isothermal was a great stepping stone for me," she said. "The instructors made the experience very worthwhile and encouraged the students to learn as much possible and to look forward to the next step which for me was a four-year university."

After earning an Associate of Arts degree at Isothermal, Burch went on to obtain a B.S. in Social Work from Western Carolina University. She puts that degree to work every day in her job as executive director of Hospice of Rutherford County, one of the largest and most highly regarded hospice care organizations in western North Carolina. Burch has been in that position for 20 years now.

"Isothermal helped me get where I am today," she said.
