Position Description

The Academic Advisor delivers learning-centered, holistic academic advising and case
management to support students in navigating a guided pathway aligned with their academic,
career, and life goals. This role also contributes to the mission of the Office of Academic
Advising by designing and implementing student engagement strategies that promote academic
persistence, retention, and program completion.

The Academic Advisor reports to the Assistant
Director of Student Engagement & Success and is responsible for the following:
● Provide holistic, strengths-based academic advising that helps students create and
follow personalized educational plans aligned with their academic and career goals.
● Guide students through their academic journey by helping them explore program
options, understand degree and certificate pathways, and make informed decisions from
entry to graduation.
● Monitor and support student progress by regularly reviewing academic performance
and proactively intervening with students facing academic challenges (warning,
probation, or suspension).
● Utilize early alert systems to identify at-risk students and conduct timely outreach,
offering appropriate referrals to academic support and community resources.
● Develop and implement student success plans by facilitating workshops, seminars, or
learning sessions on topics such as time management, study skills, or academic
resilience.
● Serve as a Level 3 screener in the Campus Connections program to assess students’
financial and personal needs and connect them with appropriate support services.
● Collaborate with faculty and staff across departments to stay informed on program
updates, share student concerns, and enhance advising services.
● Contribute to the creation and improvement of advising tools and processes, including
e-advising platforms and materials that support student access and success.
● Promote student engagement and retention by organizing events, outreach initiatives,
and communication strategies that increase connection to advising and campus
resources.
● Commit to ongoing professional development by attending training, participating in
professional organizations (e.g., NACADA), and integrating evidence-based advising
practices into daily work.
● Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental and college needs.

 

Required:
● Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
● One Year experience advising students
● Two years of experience working with students in higher education or a related field
Preferred:
● Master’s degree in higher education administration, student development, education, or
a related field from an accredited institution
● Four years of experience working with students or in a related field
● Experience providing academi
