Position Summary

The Academic and Financial Aid Advisor provides comprehensive academic advising, enrollment support, and basic financial aid guidance to prospective and currently enrolled students at the College of The Albemarle Dare Campus. This position assists students in achieving their educational goals by providing guidance related to academic planning, enrollment, transfer opportunities, Career and College Promise (CCP) programs, and financial aid processes.

The Academic and Financial Aid Advisor serves as a key resource for student success initiatives and acts as the campus liaison for testing center services. The position collaborates closely with students, faculty, staff, high school partners, and community stakeholders to promote student engagement, retention, and completion.

The Academic and Financial Aid Advisor reports to the Director of Advising and Student Success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Academic Advising and Student Success

  • Serve as the academic advisor for assigned students and provide advising support to walk-in and prospective students.
  • Guide students through enrollment, registration, academic planning, and program selection.
  • Assist students with academic forms, graduation applications, substitutions, degree evaluations, and related processes.
  • Interpret placement results and provide guidance regarding course selection and academic pathways.
  • Disseminate transfer information and assist students with transfer planning.
  • Plan and facilitate new student orientation sessions.
  • Participate in student success, retention, engagement, and enrollment initiatives.

Career and College Promise (CCP)

  • Serve as the primary CCP liaison for assigned high schools.
  • Advise CCP students and monitor academic progress and enrollment.
  • Maintain student records and ensure compliance with College and North Carolina Department of Public Instruction requirements.
  • Collaborate with high school personnel to support student success and program participation.

Financial Aid Support

  • Provide general information regarding financial aid programs, eligibility requirements, application processes, and deadlines.
  • Assist students with FAFSA-related processes and verification documentation.
  • Explain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements and assist students with SAP appeals.
  • Assist students with bookstore charge authorizations and other financial aid-related processes.
  • Refer complex financial aid matters to the Financial Aid Office as appropriate.
  • Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional financial aid requirements.

Student Services and Campus Support

  • Serve as liaison for testing center operations and student testing services.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid Office, and other departments to resolve student concerns.
  • Assist with planning and staffing enrollment events, open houses, financial aid awareness activities, and outreach programs.
  • Teach ACA courses as assigned.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office and student services environment requiring frequent interaction with students, parents, faculty, staff, and community partners. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support registration, orientation, outreach, recruitment, and special events. Travel within the College’s service area may be required.
