Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • Two or more years of professional work experience in athletics working with NJCAA and/or NCAA compliance (coaching experience is not a requirement); and Marketing/Promotion of athletics (organizing, coordinating, and facilitating collegiate and/or high school athletic programs) 
  • Broad knowledge of NJCAA and/or NCAA rules and regulations; strong aptitude for interpreting and applying policies with integrity.   
  • Computer skills to include word processing, creating/maintaining spreadsheets, presentations and databases, report writing and website maintenance. 
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer experience with Presto Sports, NJCAA Eligibility Software Program, and PhotoShop preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in sports management, physical education, or related field.

Position Description

DEFINITION
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Academic and Athletic Compliance Coordinator position performs duties and responsibilities in two primary areas: 1) Academic support – providing academic support services to serve the student-athlete population best; and 2) Athletic compliance – performing a variety of compliance-related job duties to ensure that the Cape Fear Community College athletics department complies with the rules and regulations of the NJCAA and/or NCAA. In addition, the position works closely with the Director of Athletics and in developing, evaluating and providing a diverse and comprehensive intercollegiate athletic department, including but not limited to, intercollegiate sports, fundraising, and special events.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from the Director of Athletics.
Supervises part-time coaching staff, game management personnel, and volunteers as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENTS
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 
Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for ensuring the intercollegiate athletics department at CFCC complies with all applicable rules and regulations of the NJCAA and/or NCAA, including but not limited to: monitoring the eligibility requirements for all student-athletes and disseminating eligibility results back to the Director of Athletics, coaches, student-athletes, and appropriate college administrative offices
  • Maintains a computerized compliance monitoring system on all student-athletes; produces reports, as necessary for NJCAA & EADA; investigates and resolves NJCAA rules violations and coordinates eligibility appeals process.
  • Educates stakeholders on the NJCAA and/or NCAA eligibility rules and procedures, to ensure compliance of rules and a seamless transition to a four-year institution.
  • Organizes, coordinates and implements the academic support services for student-athletes which include advising, orientations, registration, and monitoring academic progress of student-athletes to ensure graduation requirements and special needs are met.
  • Monitors full-time enrollment, graduation rates, academic progress, and academic status of student-athletes in accordance with NJCAA and/or NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Assist students who are classified as being on Academic Warning; develop strategies for success to increase retention.
  • Provide information and assistance to continuing and prospective students regarding the policies and procedures of the college, including admissions, academic and graduation requirements; assist students in interpreting the college catalog.
  • Performs a variety of complex, confidential, and independent administrative duties in support of the Director of Athletics.
  • Assists in fundraising events for the athletics department, which includes tracking all donations, maintaining database of prospects, and ensuring confidentiality and security of donor information.
  • Maintains the CFCC Athletics website content and layout on a regular basis.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements sporting event schedules; contracts athletic event officials; reserves athletic fields for events.
  • Preserves historical archives for the athletics department.
  • Maintains current and accurate statistical files for each sport; compiles event statistics following each event for NJCAA purposes. 
  • Attends, coordinates, and assists with facilitation and management of all home intercollegiate sporting contests, social events, and special events; supervises event staff including, ticket operations, concessions, score clock, announcers, line officials, statistical management, and staffing special events; organizing game day/event operations.
  • Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the College positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media, and the general public.
  • Coordinates and manages the bus fleet, and travel arraignments for the athletics department.

Other Important Functions:

  • The position requires irregular work hours including overnight travel; i.e. evenings, weekends, and additional hours during conferences and competitive seasons.  Frequent travel required.  Work is often strenuous and injuries must be guarded against when participating in activities. 
  • Assists in directing, coordinating, and reviewing of the strategic work plan for the Athletic Department.
  • Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures.
  • Represent the College, and Region, at State, District and National meetings, as deemed necessary by the Director of Athletics.
  • Participates in professional development to remain current in the area NJCAA and/or NCAA compliance.  
  • Performs other related duties, responsibilities and projects as assigned.  

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

  • Methods and techniques of motivating students toward involvement.
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • NJCAA and/or NCAA rules and regulations

Ability to:

  • Interpret and explain college policies and procedures.
  • Interpret and explain NJCAA and/or NCAA rules and regulations
  • Coordinate a variety of sports.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:
    • sitting for extended periods of time
    • operating assigned equipment
  • Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of:
    1. making sound decisions
    2. demonstrating intellectual capabilities
    3. responding to questions
    4. evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel
    5. evaluating various alternatives and making appropriate choices
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including a variety of college and government officials, community groups, and the general public.
  • Experience in an NC community college setting preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
