Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Accounting or Associate’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting
- One year of experience working in finance.
- Flexibility to navigate multiple core business office functions such as cashiering, accounts payable and governmental funds accounting
- Proven record of exceptional working knowledge of business systems and operations
- Experience in following and meeting a calendar of periodic reports, prioritizing among multiple tasks, and meeting established deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of state and/or local government budgets, procurement and purchasing processes, and cashiering
- Five or more years of experience years in a similar position at a post-secondary (Community College, University) institution or in a complex governmental (County, City, Public Schools) organizational setting
- Ellucian’s Colleague ERP experience; or equivalent experience with a higher education ERP
- Ability to reconcile budgets, cash deposits, and purchase orders
- Five years of experience in a governmental or academic setting; community college experience preferred
- Proven ability to work collegially among and with peers, and flexibility to move within assigned tasks as workflows and employee absence may dictate
Position Description
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Fiscal Services, this position performs varied accounting, business and administrative functions for the Division of Budget and Finance within the College. Activities include supporting and assisting staff assigned to core business functions, including cashiering, Accounts Payable and funds reporting. Employee in this position is expected to move nimbly among these and other functions, as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Serves in a support supplemental role to other Business Office Accountants.
- Assists the Cashier with collecting, receipting, participating in the daily cash analysis, and depositing all monies for State, County and Institutional funds in compliance with Federal, State and College policies and procedures. Assists with the processing of student tuition refunds, as directed.
- Assists Accounts Payable/County Funds Accountant with accounts payable function, including verifying checks prior to their release.
- With direction from Director of Fiscal Services, assists with updating and maintaining general ledger account codes by preparing journal entries.
- Assists with the College’s financial aid accounts receivable records.
- Assists with the analysis of and maintenance of student accounts.
- Prepares student and third-party billings.
- Handles all college insurance that is not handled through HR. (student, vehicle, liability insurances, etc.)
- Enters, maintains, and reconciles all student sponsorships.
- Accepts assignments from Supervisor for other tasks, and assists other Accountants in the Business Office as directed.
