Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
  • Minimum of five years of accounting or bookkeeping experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit or fund accounting.
  • Familiarity with Sage Intacct.
  • Knowledge of 501(c)(3) accounting regulations and best practices.

Position Description

Do Great Things! The Durham Tech Foundation seeks a detail-oriented Accounting Technician to support the foundation’s financial operations. Working under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Accounting Technician will assist with day-to-day accounting functions, including processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and maintaining accurate financial records. This part-time role is ideal for someone who thrives in a mission-driven environment and brings integrity, accuracy, and initiative to their work.

Examples of Duties

  1. Assist with processing accounts payable and receivable, including data entry and documentation.
  2. Reconcile monthly bank and investment statements.
  3. Prepare and enter journal entries and maintain general ledger transactions.
  4. Support the monthly and year-end close process, ensuring all entries are accurate and properly documented.
  5. Maintain digital and physical financial records in accordance with audit and compliance requirements.
  6. Work closely with the Advancement team to reconcile development and financial records.
  7. Support reporting needs for the finance and accounting function, including generating financial reports and schedules for the finance and investment committee, board meetings, and external audits.
  8. Respond to inquiries regarding financial transactions and provide support for budget monitoring.
  9. Contribute to process improvements and documentation of financial procedures.
  10. Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned.
