Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Emergency Services/Fire Management or a related field from a regionally accredited university or a Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited university with 18 graduate hours in or Emergency Services/Fire Management or a related field.
- Ability to teach Emergency and Fire Management courses, including diverse fire protection and emergency services subject areas, emergency preparedness, protection, enforcement, fire prevention and safety, public education, building construction, fire ground strategies and tactics, and local government finance and laws as they apply to emergency services management.
- Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse faculty/student population.
- Flexibility of working hours to include day, evening, and/or online classes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years of emergency services/fire management sector experience.
- Two years of community college teaching experience.
- Experience using learning management systems (i.e. Moodle).
Position Description
Under limited supervision, provides excellent student-centered instruction within our Public Safety Administration department, as well as serves as a partner in helping to guide the department’s future. Performs administrative, record keeping, educational, and technical work related to instructing students in a classroom and/or online setting, advising and mentoring students, and related functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instructs in the Public Safety Administration program incorporating a wide variety of teaching methods and modalities both seated and online, with an assigned course load which will include lecture, lab, testing, and assessments.
- Provides collaborative leadership, guidance and direction for assigned programs.
- Fosters a collegial relationship among colleagues and partners.
- Assists with leadership for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating programs of study while ensuring accreditation and compliance mandates are met.
- Supports the student access, success and completion agenda.
- Maintains attendance records, syllabi, lesson plans, student learning outcomes, programs, and more as required by BCC/NCCCS/SACSCOC.
- Maintains open and professional communication with BCC (faculty, staff, supervisors, administration, etc.), students, community members, and representatives from business entities.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
