The part-time Associate Degree Nursing instructor is required to work the hours as stated in the contract per week, according to a flexible schedule which may include day, evening, and/or weekend responsibilities and duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Should hold either a baccalaureate in nursing or a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution; Should have a master’s degree with a major in nursing is required;

  • Must have a current unrestricted licensure as a registered nurse in the state of North Carolina is required;

  • Should have background experience in the area of Medical-Surgical, Maternal-Child, and/or Psychiatric Nursing is preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Must have two calendar years of full-time employment or the equivalent experience in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse in a hospital or primary care facility is required.

  • Should also have one year of current teaching experience with appropriate clinical supervisory skills at the Associate Degree level or above, or the equivalent in professional clinical education is required

  • Should have background experience in either Medical-Surgical, Maternal-Child, or Psychiatric Nursing is preferred.

Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an adjunct instructor in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. The part-time instructor of associate degree Nursing is primarily responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of clinical instruction, and for providing those related services and support activities required for optimal student learning and effective educational programming.  As a member of the Associate Degree Nursing program faculty, the instructor is also accountable for assisting and supporting the program director and/or department dean, as needed, in meeting the instructional and curricular requirements of the program, department, and division.  

Examples of Duties

More specifically, and consistent with the employee’s current contract of appointment, the instructor is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Teach contact hours per week as assigned (hours may include day, evenings, or weekends), for the full duration of scheduled instruction. 

  • Enforce academic policy and procedures at all times and comply with all other institutional rules and regulations pertinent to classroom/clinical instruction and general employment. 

  • Assist in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures related to student admission, progression and graduation.  

  • Be available to students requiring additional assistance. 

  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of competency-based education and utilize available educational resources for the improvement of instruction and the creation of teaching materials. 

  • Participate in program, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and other announced activities.

  • Maintain complete office and student records, as needed; processing reports, forms, and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner, checking for the accuracy, correctness, and completeness of all data.  

  • Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the program director and/or department dean in meeting the needs of the program, department, division, and the College.  

  • Must complete mandatory training.
