Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in ART or a related subject area.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience teaching at the post-secondary level
Experience teaching dual enrollment or early college high school students
Successful online teaching experience
Position Description
The instructor will teach seated and/or online ART courses at our Alleghany Center, Sparta NC. Also, may teach at any of the three (3) campuses (Wilkes, Ashe, or Alleghany).
The instructor’s primary responsibility is to maintain excellence in teaching students in his/her curriculum subject, with the express goal of achieving specific student learning outcomes.
The part-time (adjunct) instructor reports directly to the lead instructor of the discipline.
Plan, create, and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student learning.
Encourage the development of critical thinking skills through appropriate classroom exercises and assignments.
Maintain a high level of currency in the discipline, and incorporate innovative and creative instructional techniques in the classroom.
Collaborate with the lead instructor in the creation of syllabi; the establishment of objectives, competencies, and assessments; and the selection of textbooks, periodicals, and other resources.
Communicate with students and administration through the technological framework provided by WCC, including posting syllabi for all sections of all courses to the campus web portal, and regularly checking and responding to e-mail sent to the instructor via the campus web portal and messages sent to the college e-mail/voice-mail/telephone service.
Refer students, as appropriate, to student support areas of WCC, including Counseling and/or Student Support Services, the Academic Support Center, Learning Resources Center, Student Services, the Writing Center, etc.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as required to meet course objectives.
