Minimum Qualifications

A master’s degree with 18 or more graduate hours in criminal justice is and a minimum of 3 years experience in teaching and/or working in the field is preferred for transfer courses.

Position Description

The instructor will teach seated courses at our Alleghany Center, Sparta NC. Also, may teach at any of the three (3) campuses (Wilkes, Ashe, or Alleghany).

This is a part-time teaching position. The instructor will be responsible for teaching assigned courses, in accordance with NCCCS curriculum standards and course descriptions in addition to the standards and guidelines set forth by the program accreditation entity, maintain a current attendance roster, grade assignments and respond to student questions in a timely manner. The instructor will report to and work with the Lead Instructor of Criminal Justice on course content and quality to keep courses consistent.

Instructor’s duties include:

  1. Plan, create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student learning.
  2. Teach essential material in accordance with the course description and industry standards.
  3. Encourage the development of critical thinking skills through appropriate classroom exercises and assignments.
  4. Track and document student progress.
  5. Communicate with students, supervisor, and WCC faculty/staff through the technological framework, such as email and Moodle provided by WCC.
  6. Complete course administrative paperwork in a timely manner (attendance, grades, etc.)
  7. Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
