Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma, certificate, or appropriate credentials in combination with at least two (2) years of successful and professional SMAW (Stick) welding experience 
  • Must possess the ability to instruct on basic to advanced SMAW (Stick) welding topics 
  • Must be highly organized with a clear understanding of the importance of a clean working environment for both the classroom and laboratory setting; use of knowledge to model and teach students to maintain a clean, well-organized workspace

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Welding Technology or closely related field from a nationally accredited institution
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience welding in a commercial, residential, and/or private sector setting
  • Prior experience teaching within a classroom and/or online environment

Position Description

Will teach assigned face-to-face SMAW (Stick) Plate Welding course(s). SMAW (Stick) Plate Welding is a course that introduces the shielded metal arc (stick) welding process. Emphasis is placed on padding, fillet, and groove welds in various positions with SMAW electrodes. Upon completion, students should be able to perform SMAW fillet and groove welds on carbon plate with prescribed electrodes.

Monday – Tuesday 5:00 PM – 8:45 PM

 

Duties will include developing, updating, and teaching courses in an online/classroom/laboratory setting at the Martin Community College Main Campus. Course consists of face-to-face and online instruction.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction for students in a physical and online instructional setting.
  • Instruct day and online sections as needed for the program and students.
  • Organizing a semester course following departmental guidelines.
  • Create course materials (course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, tests, handouts, lectures, slides, assignments, rubrics, models, classroom schedule activities, group work).
  • Develop, prepare and grade assignments identified to evaluate student performance and based on student learning outcomes and competencies.
  • Determine a fair grading system.
  • Set up materials on Moodle (grade book, tests, lectures).
  • Set up policies compliant with departmental and school regulations and requirements.
  • Hold student conferences as needed and required.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and data bases according to program needs and/or accreditation requirements. Record attendance in Self-Service.
  • Contact students who are absent from class.
  • Complete FTE and progress reports as required.
  • Correspond with students, supervisor, and Chief Academic Officer and provide responses in a timely manner. Be accessible to supervisor and Chief Academic Officer by phone and email.
  • Keep up with grades and attendance on a weekly basis. Submit grade and attendance reports as required.
  • Organize and maintain a clean and efficient classroom and laboratory setting; model and instruct students on the importance of a clean and organized work environment.
  • Work with students registered with Disabilities Services.
  • Complete all compulsory training in regards to FERPA, Title IX, and Campus Safety.
  • Respond to student issues professionally and report unresolved issues or classroom incidents to the immediate supervisor.
  • Adhere to all division and campus policies and procedures.
