Position Description
Position Summary
FLSA: Non-Exempt
The Admissions Counselor serves as a member of the Student Success and Enrollment Management team and assists prospective students through the recruitment, admissions, and enrollment process. This position develops relationships with prospective students, parents, high school personnel, and community partners to support enrollment goals and student success.
The Admissions Counselor coordinates and participates in recruitment activities throughout the College’s seven-county service area, provides admissions guidance, supports enrollment initiatives, oversees the online orientation process, and assists students in navigating College programs, services, and requirements.
The Admissions Counselor reports directly to the Director, Admissions and Recruitment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Recruitment and Outreach
- Serve as the primary contact for recruitment initiatives involving high schools, community organizations, and special events.
- Represent the College at recruitment fairs, high school visits, community events, and other outreach activities.
- Assist with planning and coordinating on-campus and off-campus admissions and recruitment events.
- Schedule, coordinate, and track prospective student tours for all College locations.
- Participate in initiatives designed to increase student engagement, enrollment, retention, and success.
Admissions and Enrollment Support
- Guide prospective students through the admissions and enrollment process.
- Assist students with understanding and completing admissions requirements.
- Provide entry-level academic and career guidance to assist students in selecting appropriate programs of study.
- Educate students regarding available funding opportunities and assist them in locating appropriate application resources.
- Assist students with completing enrollment requirements, including submission of transcripts and completion of the online orientation.
- Maintain knowledge of all College academic programs, admissions requirements, and enrollment processes.
- Serve as a backup to the Admissions Specialist for admissions-related communications.
International Student Admissions
- Provide information and assistance to prospective international students regarding admissions requirements and immigration-related documentation.
- Prepare and issue I-20 documentation and assist with processes related to maintaining valid non-immigrant student status.
- Coordinate outreach, admissions processing, and classification of non-U.S. applicants.
Student Services and Program Support
- Oversee and maintain content related to the College’s online orientation program.
- Assist with updating student records following orientation completion.
- Provide supervision and guidance to assigned work-study students.
- Serve as a resource regarding admissions-related systems and services, including CFNC, FAFSA, RDS, Ellucian, MyCourses, MyServices, Aviso, and North Carolina Community College placement requirements.
- Collect and provide information regarding student demographics and enrollment trends as needed.
- Refer students to appropriate College and community resources.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with FERPA and College policies.
Other Duties
- Participate in departmental meetings, training opportunities, and professional development activities.
- Assist with special projects and initiatives related to enrollment management and student success.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
